Nobles Secures £3.9m Deal to Complete Medical Centre
Nobles Construction has been appointed to recommence work on a £7m medical centre in Birkenhead, after the original contractor went into administration.
Felton Construction, also based in Birkenhead, collapsed in May with the loss of 45 jobs.
Felton was the main contractor on the Laird Street Medical Centre, as well as the refurbishment of a 115,000 sq ft office building in Liverpool - No 1 Tithebarn.
Work on both projects was suspended after administrators were called in.
A new contractor was swiftly appointed to No 1 Tithebarn and now Liverpool-based Nobles is to take over work at Laird Street.
The centre was scheduled to open in October 2009, but is now expected to be complete in early 2010. Nobles will begin work shortly and will make £3.9m from the deal.
Director Peter Linford told LDP Business: "All parties have been able to act very quickly to salvage the scheme and ensure there is minimum delay to operations.
"This is a perfect scheme for us. We have a proven track record of delivering projects of this kind against client objectives, on time and within budget.
"We're confident we will help deliver a state-of-the-art facility that will improve the access of health care to the local community."
Once completed, the new facility will accommodate eight GPs from the nearby Miriam and Cavendish Medical Centres, replacing their existing buildings.
Both practices will retain their own identities within the new building.
An on-site pharmacy will also be included, as well as additional space for community services which will be provided by NHS Wirral.
The facility will also accommodate services provided by Peninsula Health, a partnership between 26 Wirral GP Practices and Assura, the company behind the development.
Assura development manager Tom Cooke said: "While it was disappointing to learn of Felton Construction's demise, we are delighted that our development partner, LSP, has now completed a thorough due diligence process, leading to the appointment of Nobles Construction enabling work to re-commence as soon as possible."
Phil Lilley, director of LSP Developments, said: "It has been our priority to appoint a new contractor as soon as possible."
