Commonly known as the Old Gas Works this scheme was design and build, mixed tenure development comprising of 24 one bedroom apartments within 2 three-storey blocks and 8 three bedroom shared ownership houses. All properties primarily constructed utilising a timber frame package with a combination of traditional brickwork and cementitious reproduction timber cladding system.

As the name suggests the development was built on a former gas works site in the market town of Frome. Construction on this development proved challenging given that access to land was difficult, the ground was heavily contaminated, the site is located directly adjacent to a live railway line and the existing buildings were home to a colony of rare bats.

Works included the formation of roads and sewers along with more specialist installations such as surface water attenuation beneath all roads and parking areas. This allows a controlled discharge of rain water in to the adjacent river, preventing any additional surcharge to the water course which in-turn will assist in preventing any future flooding. Due to the proximity of the live railway line it was incumbent on us to ensure high levels of acoustic resistivity to both the building structure as well as the mechanical and ventilation elements of the buildings.

This development is another example of Nobles Construction’s continued expansion across the UK, delivering a high quality purpose made product.
